Creative Problem Solving

Creative Problem Solving

Activity: And our session always begins with some new interesting activity which carries lots of information along with the fun. . Studies can be a fun and inculcating if hey are taught in a right way by means of practical examples. The Yet another new activity of our session was Solving a Puzzle. A puzzle was shown to us and we were supposed to seperate the ring from the toy shown. I will take you through some of the important management concepts taught to us by means of this activity.
At first instance the task seemed impossible. The ring looked inseperable from the toy.

Here comes our first management concept:

Tendency to go for shortcuts: By Early analysis of the problem at hand, many of us reached to the consensus that the only solution is to cut the rope. That would have destroyed the toy for ever.
In Organizations also, there is always a possibility to go for shortcut solutions. But with the increasing pace of change in technology and larger world, the need of an hour is "Out of Box" thinking. Our World is shrinking very fast in terms of Globalization, here the technology changes every second. The one with best and innovative solution succeeds.

Creative Solution and Need For Vision: The Solution for the puzzle should be the one which would not destroy the toy and would entice others to follow.People started with hit and trial solutions. Some went into greater depth and studied the toy from various angles.

Here Comes the Idea of "Bounded Rationality". We had limited knowledge about the task at hand. But finding an innovative solution with limited knowledge is task of managers!Only those who possess greater innovation and out of box thinking succeeds in this competitive world.

Working with constraints: The puzzle was designed in such a way that only at one particular position, we were able to separate the ring from the toy(our task). No Hit and trial worked.

Looking at the problem from different angles: Not every problem can be solved by predefined logical procedures. The task at hand was peculiar and one of its kind. The Technical,Conceptual and human skills were at work.

The Challenge Of motivation: Motivation is a human phychological character which contributes to person’s degree of commitment. In our activity, only few people were struggling with the activity till the end and others lost hope Our professor Dr. Mandi behaved as Theory X manager in the activity. He motivated people and influenced the outlook of people towards the task.

To our surprise,One worker came and solved the puzzle within no time. The Solution seemed simple. And thereafter everybody was able to solve the puzzle as the trick was known in open. In Real life scenarios also,Innovation dies very soon.It is very important for the organization to protect its patents and keep on coming up with innovative solutions to beat the head on competition!.

I assume my audience have enjoyed learning the simple but important management concepts by means of this puzzle solving activity.I wish to learn more and more in our upcoming sessions!
